Can't sleep because of the heat? These tips will definitely help
Everyone has probably felt at least once how hot temperatures can affect sleep. Either we can't fall asleep, we wake up during the night, or we wake up in the morning drenched in sweat... However, there is a way to put an end to this. Here we have gathered the most important and effective tips that will help you fall asleep regardless of how warm the nights are.
- Open the windows. If your bedroom is warmer than outside, leave the windows open and let in a fresh breeze.
- Get a fan. Fans are more suitable (and cheaper) for nighttime use than air conditioners. You can place a bowl of ice cubes in front of the fan.
- Drink more water. Drink a glass of cold water before bed to further cool your body.
- A warm shower before bed. A cold shower can have the opposite effect. A cold shower will quickly decrease blood flow to the skin, so you'll feel hot again after a few minutes. A warm shower will do the opposite, helping you increase heat loss from your body.
- Store blankets and duvets. If you keep them on the bed out of habit during the summer, put them in the closet until the temperatures drop.
- Cool the sheets. This sounds strange, but it works. Fold the sheet, put it in a plastic bag, and place the bag in the fridge or freezer for a few minutes. While you brush your teeth, the sheet will cool down, making it easier to fall asleep.
- Keep your distance. We know the charm of sharing a bed is feeling your partner's presence, but during the summer, it's simply not practical.
- Keep pets out of the bed at night. The fewer bodies in the bedroom, the better!
- Wear lightweight cotton pajamas (and cotton sheets can help too).
