Ankle socks vs regular socks: which side are you on?

Ankle socks are no longer in fashion, according to Gen Z. They have been replaced by socks that are worn above the ankle, up to mid-calf, and these are typically white. Ankle socks that are barely visible or completely hidden were in fashion at the beginning of the millennium. During that time, men often wore loafers without socks, with their pant hems rolled up. Somehow, wearing 'pulled-up' socks was considered strange back then. However, times in fashion change and socks are no exception.

Various arguments against ankle socks can be found on forums. Some are aesthetic, simply stating that ankle socks look silly. Practical arguments highlight that they are 'pointless' because they do not protect a significant part of the leg. Others are bothered by the sight of ankles.

In any case, ankle socks are out, and regular white socks are in. In addition to the Gen Z crowd, many celebrities, such as Justin Bieber, Harry Styles, and Emma Corrin, have embraced the new sock trend. They can be worn with shorts or skirts and in countless fashion combinations. Unlike minimalist ankle socks, longer white socks will be a prominent piece in most outfits.
