The zip-up hoodie is back in men’s wardrobes – and it’s looking better than ever

Before it became a symbol of modern casual style, the zip-up hoodie was more of a uniform – worn by workers, athletes and anyone who valued practicality over polish. The 1970s saw it adopted by the hip-hop scene, and by the 1990s, brands like Nike, Adidas and Champion had brought it firmly into the mainstream, cementing its place in the streetwear canon.

After years of crewneck jumpers dominating men’s fashion, the zip-up hoodie has made a confident return. It’s no longer reserved for weekends on the sofa – it’s now part of the city wardrobe. Layered, versatile and quietly refined, it works just as well under a coat as it does with chinos or tailored wool trousers.

The new generation of zip-ups feels more considered: smarter cuts, premium fabrics and a restrained colour palette. In short, it’s the comeback of a classic.
